I was wondering does anyone use Shadow Word: Death in their rotation or at all anymore.

I don't, mainly due to the fact that I haven't found its damage done making up for the damage done to you. Especially during some major fights where an ill-timed SW:D can and will actually kill you. I just haven't found any good situations that would negate the adverse aspect of the spell.

I am wondering because from reading things in upcoming cata, it looks like they are going to be buffing up this spell. I remember it was originally meant to be used "finishing" move much akin to kill shot, but i dont think it actually made it. I mean its almost impossible to time it to where your SW:D actually kills the target to make it so it doesn't do damage back to you.

Typically you shouldn't be using it sans a few specific situations:

You're moving and DP doesn't need to be refreshed.
Quick burst on low health mobs (mind blast->sw:d)

This will probably change in cataclysm.

As things stand in WotLK, Shadow Word: Death in PvE is used only while moving. To be more specific.

If you are running and:
1) your Shadowfiend is on CD
2) your dispersion is on CD (only if you know you will run for 6+ sec)
3) your Devouring Plague is on the boss / mob
4) your Shadow Word: Pain is on everything around that you know will live for more than 18 sec

then hit Shadow Word: Death. And keep spamming DP once SW:D is on CD.
